New Students

Today is the registration day for new students. I see cars coming in our faculty building since early in the morning. The best part is, I enjoy a nice view from my room since it is located on top floor and facing the main road.

As early as 8 o'clock, I see parents waiting enthusiastically for the registration booth to be opened; the faces with full of hopes, praying for the best of their children. This is not a new phenomenon in any uni, colleges etc. Pursuing to a higher lever is like an oblige ritual nowadays.

Somehow, not all students will have the same view here. They might come for the sake of their parents and turn up to be problem students with lack of interest in study. Some of them are so innocence during the first semester and change into a completely different person in the next semester as a consequences of peer influences. The moral here is; these kids needs to be prepared with strong inner value and religious background. Recalled the words from the ustaz, the age between 15 and 35 will determine who are we on the next stage of our life.Meaning: This is the critical time where we may be bad at early stage of teenagers, however if we manage to change and become a good muslim, Insyallah we'll be in a right track.

Thus, this is where, parents play an important role to guide and feed them with the right educations and strenghten their core. This reminder goes to me as well:)) For me as an academician, we do have our role to play as a fardhu kifayah, not only teaching them specifically in the related subjects, but to 'educate' them of becoming a better person/muslim as this will play a greater impact when they're out of the colleges.
